Nine members of a Kabul family, including six children, were killed in a drone attack on a vehicle that had a suicide bomber of the ISIS-K in a residential neighborhood of the city CNN reported quoting a relative of the family.

Earlier the US has carried the attack killed a number of suicide bombers who were preparing to head towards the Kabul international airport to blow themselves up the way the group did last week killing 170 persons.

In its revised assessment of the strike that “targeted an imminent threat”, the US found that only one bomber was killed and possibly his explosive-laden vehicle had triggered massive explosions killing the civilians.

The youngest among the sibling killed was a 2-year-old girl. The brother of the head of the family that perished in the attack told CNN  they were an ordinary family. "We are not ISIS or Daesh and this was a family home -- where my brothers lived with their families."

The US military admitted the possibility of civilian casualties in the strike.

"We know that there were substantial and powerful subsequent explosions resulting from the destruction of the vehicle, indicating a large amount of explosive material inside that may have caused additional casualties. It is unclear what may have happened, and we are investigating further," Capt. Bill Urban, a spokesman for US Central Command, said.

"We would be deeply saddened by any potential loss of innocent life," he said in a statement.
