Pak police arrests 100 for Sialkot killing

New Delhi

Pakistan police of Punjab province have rounded up more than 100 people who were part of the mob in Sialkot that lynched a Sri Lankan export manager of a factory and burnt his body in full public view.

According to Pakistan media, the police formed 10 teams to identify and arrest the people involved in the lynching of Priyantha Kumara in his early forties.

It may be recalled that two ring leaders had spoken to media –it clips were posted on social media – and claimed they did the right deed in punishing a man who had dared to violate the honour of the Prophet.” A spokesperson of the Punjab government, Hasaan Khawar revealed to the journalists that over 100 people have been arrested so far in connection with the mob lynching.

Some were identified through CCTV footages.

Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan condemned the act, saying it was “a day of shame” for the country and everyone involved would be arrested.

The foreign ministry of Sri Lanka has demanded an investigation into the matter while Amnesty international stressed an independent investigation.

According to Pakistan media reports, Kumara who was the general manager of the factory allegedly tore a posted of the Tehreek-e-labaiyyak Pakistan (TLP) extremist organization that entered into an agreement with the government last month following which this extremist organization got legitimacy.
