Ambala Police have arrested a local contractor on charges of allegedly spying for Pakistan and sharing sensitive information related to an Indian Air Force station in the district, officials said on Tuesday.

The accused, identified as Sunil alias Sunny, was taken into custody after police received specific intelligence inputs about a person leaking information from a defence installation. A case has been registered against him, and his mobile phone has been seized for forensic analysis.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (Crime) Virendra Kumar said Sunil had been working as a contractor at the Air Force station since 2020, primarily handling repair-related work. During interrogation, investigators found suspicious material on his phone, including photographs and communications allegedly linked to sensitive locations.

Police said the accused was in contact with a woman who sought information from him, which he allegedly shared. Preliminary analysis of his device suggested that the information may have been transmitted to a neighbouring country considered hostile, though officials stressed that all evidence is still being verified.

“The investigation is at an initial stage. We are analysing digital evidence and corroborating facts independently,” Kumar said.

Sunil, a married man with two children, has been placed on four days’ police remand for further questioning. His father is a retired Indian Railways employee.

In a separate case earlier, Haryana Police arrested a Kaithal resident for allegedly sharing information with Pakistan’s army and intelligence agency ISI during a recent India-Pakistan conflict. Police said the accused had confessed to passing on sensitive details, and cyber experts are examining his devices.
