Assam government reshuffles 14 senior bureaucrats ahead of Assembly polls

The Assam government has carried out a major administrative reshuffle, transferring 14 IAS and state service officers with less than six months remaining for the state Assembly elections.

According to an order issued by the Personnel Department on Wednesday, Kamrup Metropolitan District Commissioner Sumit Sattawan has been transferred and posted as District Commissioner (DC) of Tinsukia. He will be replaced in Kamrup Metropolitan by Swapneel Paul, who was serving as the DC of Tinsukia.

Aranyak Saikia, staff officer to the Chief Secretary, has been appointed as the new DC of Karbi Anglong. The incumbent, Nirala Phangshopi, has been shifted to the Hill Areas Department as Additional Secretary.

In another key move, Sivasagar DC Aayush Garg and Cachar DC Mridul Yadav have been transferred, swapping their postings. Similarly, Dibakar Nath, DC of Dhubri, and Nabadeep Pathak, DC of Bongaigaon, have also exchanged positions.

Masanda Magdalin Pertin, who was serving as the DC of Kokrajhar and Director of Training at the Bodoland Administrative Staff College, has been posted as Joint Secretary in the Finance Department. Tamulpur DC Pankaj Chakravarty will take over as the new DC of Kokrajhar.

Simi Karan, currently Joint Secretary in the Environment & Forest and Housing & Urban Affairs Departments, has been appointed as DC of Tamulpur.

Inspector General of Prisons and Secretary in the Home & Political Department, Pubali Gohain, has been transferred and posted as DC of Darrang. The current Darrang DC, Parag Kumar Kakaty, will assume charge as DC of Golaghat.

Meanwhile, Golaghat DC Pulak Mahanta has been appointed as the new Inspector General of Prisons.

The reshuffle comes ahead of the Assam Assembly elections, scheduled to be held in March–April next year.
