With Independence Day just a day away, patriotic fervour is sweeping Jammu and Kashmir, as tricolour rallies continue across the Union Territory. On Thursday, locals gathered near the iconic Chenab Bridge in Reasi — the world’s highest railway bridge — to participate in a spirited rally.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate Dharmari, Tariq Aziz, said the series of rallies had been underway since early December. “Today’s programme was held under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner Reasi. Civil society members, children, and representatives from all departments joined in. The message is clear — when our tricolour soars high, so does the spirit of our people,” he said.
Among the participants were enthusiastic NCC cadets preparing for their big moment on August 15. Cadet Mehwish Fatima, who has been training since August 1, expressed her excitement. “Our final parade will be at Bakshi Stadium tomorrow. I joined the NCC out of personal interest, and I’m thrilled to be a part of this event,” she said.
Fellow cadet Ulfat shared similar sentiments. “Joining the NCC has given me immense encouragement. I’ve never participated in such activities before. Tomorrow will be my first time at Bakshi Stadium, and I’m very excited,” she said.
