Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy on Saturday said that the budget for Rs 14,300 crore presented for the fiscal 2026-2027 in the Assembly on August 24 was growth-oriented and aims at developing infrastructure.

Rangasamy, who is heading the AINRC-BJP coalition ministry, thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for providing sufficient funds to Puducherry to meet its commitments.

"We still want more funds so that our plans and schemes can be implemented fast," he said while winding up debate on the budget in the Assembly.

Rangasamy appealed to the Centre to write off the loans and interest due from Puducherry over the years and this measure would strengthen the fiscal position of Puducherry.

He said that the subsidy now paid at Rs 150 for an LPG cylinder to families coming under the Above Poverty Line category would be raised to Rs 200. Similarly, the subsidy for LPG cylinder for families coming under Below Poverty Line (BPL) category would be raised to Rs 350 from the present Rs 300, he said.

The CM said that industrial parks would come up on the sprawling site in Karasur village near here through a "special economic zone project."

He said plans were afoot to revive major projects like the spinning mill, cooperative sugar mill and a few other public sector undertakings so that jobs would be available for educated youth.
