The anti-madrasa action of the Uttar Pradesh government received a jolt on Thursday when the Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court ordered the immediate opening of 30 madrasas closed by the government in the Shravasti area.
The court lifted the ban on the educational activities of these institutions that impart religious training to students.
This decision came from the bench of Justice Pankaj Bhatia on a petition filed by the Madrasa Muin-ul-Islam with the support of Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind.
JIH President Maulana Mahmood Asad Madni said the petitioners had challenged the government's notices, claiming the government did not give the Madrasas an opportunity to explain.
On 7 June 2025, the High Court stayed the demolition of these madrasas, saying that all the notices have the same number, and showed negligence of the authorities.
The bulldozer action and unilateral steps on the madrasas in Shravasti had caused serious concern and fear.
The petition was filed against the government’s order to close 26 Madrasas in the Shravasti area.
In a statement, Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind leaders, Maulana Mahmood Asad Madani and Maulana Mahmood Madani, welcomed the court decision as a victory of justice and the Constitution.
They said that madrasas are like the backbone of both the country and the community. These institutions provide free education to poor children and improve their personality, making them good human beings and responsible citizens.
They said that the government's “irresponsible and malicious” action was unacceptable.
