Edgbaston
Jasprit Bumrah has been named captain of the Indian team for the fifth test match against England starting on Friday at Edgbaston.
He replaces Rohit Sharma who will sit out having tested positive for Covid19. Rohit contracted the infection on the second day of the team’s tour match against Leicester last week. His Rapid Antigen Test came positive on Thursday ruling him put of the match.
This is Bumrah’s maiden captaincy stint. He has never led the country in any form of the game. Incidentally, he is the first fast bowler to lead India since Kapil Dev.
He was the vice-captain during the home test series against Sri Lanka earlier this year.
