Weightlifter Nooh Dastagir Butt won the first gold medal for Pakistan in the ongoing Commonwealth Games on Thursday.
In the process, Butt also set a new games record in the 109+ weight category.
The 24-year-old Pakistani lifted 173 kgs in the snatch portion following his 232 kg lift in the clean and jerk section to take his total to 405 kgs.
Nooh had won a bronze medal in the last edition of the game in Gold Coast.
The silver medal in the last event of the weightlifting championship went to New Zealand’s David Andrew Liti who lifted 394 kilos.
India’s Gurdeep Singh clinched the bronze with a lift of 390 kgs.

This was Pakistan’ second medal at the current games.
Earlier, the country had won a bronze medal in Judo.
