Hosts Qatar will take on Ecuador in the opener of the FIFA 2022 world cup on November 20. The opening match will be played at the Al Bayt Stadium.

FIFA world cup was originally scheduled to commence from November 21.

The change in schedule was done to allow the host nation to play the first game of the tournament, as has been the custom over the past editions of the tournament.

This has been done to ensure the continuity of a long-standing tradition of marking the start of the FIFA World Cup with an opening ceremony followed by the first match featuring either the hosts or the defending champions.

Consequently, the encounter between Senegal and the Netherlands has been rescheduled for next day.

The final is scheduled to be played from December 18.
