India’s top and the world number 9 Tennis star Sania Mirza will set a record by becoming the only woman athlete to represent her country in the fourth successive Olympian games starting.

The 34-year-old veteran will play in TokyoOlympics that begin on July 23 to set this record.

After giving birth to her son, Izhaan, in 2018,  and struggling with an injury, Mirza was back into the arena in January last year when she won the Hobart International WTA event.

This summer, Sania has a busy schedule as she is set to feature in Wimbledon and the Olympics within a month of each other

Sania told Olympic.com, “I have had an amazing career; It’s just about believing in yourself and believing in your abilities. I am in my 30's and I’m still here! I don’t really think too much about it (how long I will play). I take it day by day.”

Ranked at world no 9, Sania will partner for the first time with India’s highest-ranked doubles player (95) Ankita Raina in womens' doubles at Tokyo.

Sania praised Ankita as a ‘promising talent and a hardworking girl.” She said it is for the first time, she will be playing doubles with an India whose world rank is below 100.

Ankita, who belongs to Kashmir, ranks 95th in the world ranking of Tennis players.
