Santoor Ashram, a cultural non-governmental organisation committed to nurturing financially underprivileged student artists, successfully organised Aikyam – Series 2, a two-day celebration of classical music and performing arts, at Uttam Mancha in Kolkata on January 2 and 3, 2026. Founded by renowned Santoor maestro Pt. Tarun Bhattacharya, the event was held in collaboration with Jagriti Dham, marking a meaningful partnership that blended cultural preservation with social inclusion.
True to its name, Aikyam, which signifies unity, the festival brought together legendary maestros, accomplished performers, and emerging artists on a single platform. The thoughtfully curated programme created a harmonious exchange between experience and aspiration, allowing young talent to perform alongside established icons of Indian classical music and dance.
The event witnessed an overwhelming response from audiences, with packed halls and enthusiastic participation from art and music lovers across the city. Jagriti Dham, regarded as a leading senior living community in Kolkata, played an active role in supporting the initiative. Its involvement added a unique intergenerational dimension to the festival, making the experience emotionally enriching for both performers and attendees.
One of the standout moments of Aikyam – Series 2 was the recognition of young artists who demonstrated exceptional promise across various disciplines of music and dance. These emerging performers were felicitated by Jagriti Dham in a gesture that reflected the organisation’s commitment to encouraging talent, preserving India’s artistic heritage, and promoting social responsibility through cultural engagement.
Ravindra Chamaria, Chairman and Managing Director of Infinity Group and Founding Trustee of Jagriti Dham, highlighted the deeper significance of the collaboration. “Aikyam – Series 2 is a powerful reminder of how art fosters harmony, growth, and collective purpose. Jagriti Dham is honoured to partner with Santoor Ashram in supporting young artists and celebrating creativity that is rooted in our cultural ethos,” he said.
Another deeply emotional moment during the festival was the felicitation of Dr. Malaya Gangopadhyay, the senior-most resident of Jagriti Dham. He was honoured by Padma Bhushan awardee Pt. Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, the globally acclaimed musician and creator of the Mohan Veena. The gesture symbolised respect for age, wisdom, and lifelong contribution, resonating strongly with the audience and reinforcing the festival’s message of intergenerational unity.
Adding to the cultural significance of the occasion, Pt. Tarun Bhattacharya unveiled and presented a specially composed Signature Tune for Jagriti Dham. The soulful composition reflected values of serenity, dignity, spirituality, and cultural richness that define the senior living community. The piece was warmly received and widely appreciated by the audience.
Beyond the stage performances, Aikyam – Series 2 created meaningful interactions among senior residents, young performers, and maestros. Informal exchanges of stories, blessings, and encouragement added a human and emotional depth to the festival, reinforcing the idea that art can bridge generations and foster mutual respect.
The two-day programme featured a distinguished line-up of artists across classical vocal, instrumental, and dance traditions. Each performance was carefully curated to strike a balance between tradition and contemporary expression, offering audiences a rich and immersive cultural experience.
Reflecting on the vision behind the initiative, Pt. Tarun Bhattacharya said, “Aikyam is more than a concert series—it is a movement that connects generations, backgrounds, and artistic voices. With the support of Jagriti Dham, we were able to provide a platform where young, underprivileged artists could perform alongside legends and feel genuinely recognised and encouraged.”
