GST revenue rises 3.2% to Rs 1.94 lakh crore in May

India's gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections increased by 3.2 per cent year-on-year to more than Rs 1.94 lakh crore in May, reflecting stronger economic activity, higher domestic consumption, and continued growth in import-related tax receipts.

In May last year, gross GST collections stood at Rs 1.88 lakh crore.

According to official data, collections from Central GST (CGST) on domestic transactions amounted to Rs 37,397 crore, while State GST (SGST) contributed Rs 45,143 crore. Integrated GST (IGST) collections reached Rs 51,990 crore during the month.

The data showed a significant rise in taxable supplies, with goods transactions increasing by 26.9 per cent, indicating robust domestic demand. Taxable supplies in the services sector also recorded healthy growth of 22.2 per cent, highlighting sustained momentum in consumption and economic activity.

IGST revenues from imports climbed 19.1 per cent to Rs 59,654 crore, suggesting continued expansion in industrial and trade activities.

GST refunds during May rose by 2.6 per cent to Rs 27,281 crore.

After accounting for refunds, net GST collections stood at approximately Rs 1.67 lakh crore, registering a growth of 3.3 per cent compared to the corresponding period last year.

The latest figures come after April's record-breaking GST collections of Rs 2.43 lakh crore, the highest monthly revenue since the implementation of the indirect tax regime.
