India’s most visited monument the Taj Mahal at Agra, Uttar Pradesh has reopened for tourists after remaining closed for 60 days due to prevailing Covid-19 pandemic.
This has happened following improvement in the situation on the Covid-19 front and the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) ordering the reopening of all the monuments under its control across India.
Here in the Golden triangle tourism circuit –Delhi-Agra-Jaipur – the move has sent cheers among the tourism and travel operators as monuments like Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, Fatehpur Sikri, Sikandra stand reopened from today.
The ASI has, however, placed, a cap of 650tourists per day on Taj Mahal and all other monuments in this circuit.
The visitor to the Taj Mahal and other monuments will not be able to carry anything inside and they have to follow all the Covid1-19 related protocols.
Last year Taj Mahal had remained closed for 188 days throwing the hotel and allies sectors in Agra into a recession.
The first time the monuments were closed on March 17 last year. The Taj Mahal was however re-opened by the local administration on 21 September 2020.
However, all the tourist attractions were closed in the second wave of pandemic two months ago.
