The 170-year-old temple in Srinagar reopened after it remained closed for 36 years due to the exodus of Kashmiri Hindus in the wake of Pakistan-inspired terrorism. The Shri Raghunathji Mandir, located in downtown Srinagar, had been refurbished and was reopened with pomp and ceremony, accompanied by devotion, on the occasion of Ram Navami.

Today, it once again resonates with the sounds of bells, prayers and hymns, as devotees gather to celebrate the birth of Lord Ram. Its reopening is being seen as a strong symbol of cultural revival and reconnecting with heritage.

Many Kashmiri Pandits, who are visiting the area after decades, express deep emotions as they enter the temple.

Sunil Kaul told Awaz-the Voice that it felt like a lost part of his life coming back. "We had only heard about this temple from our elders. It is a moment of pride and emotion to be here today on the occasion of Ram Navami."

Another member of the community, Shobha Reena, says that this day brings both memories and hope. "We have been living with these memories for years. Seeing the temple reopened and filled with devotees brings tears to our eyes. It gives us hope for the future."

Located in the historic Habba Kadal area, the temple, which was once a vital centre of life for Kashmiri Pandits, has now reopened thanks to the community's efforts and the local administration's cooperation. Officials say that the step shows the importance of preserving the shared cultural heritage of the area.

A community representative says it is a process of restoring faith and reconnecting with our roots. We hope more such initiatives will be taken. As prayers continue and devotees gather in large numbers, the reopening of the Raghunath temple is a reminder of the strength of a community and the spirit of reconnecting with our traditions.
