The Aam Aadmi Party on Wednesday urged Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta to include a Question Hour in the upcoming Monsoon Session, saying it is an integral part of legislative proceedings that enables members to raise issues concerning the public.

Addressing a press conference, AAP spokesperson and Burari MLA Sanjeev Jha said this would be the second consecutive Assembly session without a Question Hour.

Pointing out that the gap between the announcement of the session and its commencement did not leave enough time for the Question Hour, Jha appealed to the Speaker to ensure that the provision is restored, as legislative proceedings should facilitate discussion and accountability.

Kondli MLA Kuldeep Kumar seconded the demand, stating that Question Hour was an essential part of the Assembly's functioning as it enabled elected representatives to raise public issues and seek replies from the government.

He urged the Speaker to ensure that the Monsoon Session includes a Question Hour, saying it was necessary for the effective functioning of the legislature and for holding the government accountable.
