Andhra Pradesh Transport Minister M. Ramprasad Reddy on Saturday said authorities have inspected over 1,000 buses across the state, with more than 200 penalised for violations such as lack of proper documentation.
The drive comes in the wake of four major bus accidents in the past six months that claimed 45 lives, including 33 people who were charred to death, and left several others injured.
“We are taking intensive measures to prevent road accidents. A total of 1,036 buses were checked, and cases have been registered against 236 buses found without proper documents,” Reddy said in an official statement.
He added that inspections were carried out at 16 locations, including toll plazas and check-posts across the state.
