A Delhi court on Wednesday reserved its decision on an application filed by jailed Jammu and Kashmir MP Engineer Rashid seeking interim bail or custody parole to attend the upcoming Winter Session of Parliament.

Additional Sessions Judge Prashant Sharma heard the plea moved by advocate Vikhyat Oberoi on behalf of Sheikh Abdul Rashid, popularly known as Engineer Rashid. The application argued that as an elected parliamentarian, Rashid is required to be present in the Lok Sabha from December 1 to fulfil his duties during the session.

The proceedings were held in-camera. The court is expected to announce its order on Thursday.

On November 21, the probe agency had asked for time to obtain instructions regarding the plea and requested an adjournment before the same court.

Rashid, who won the 2024 Lok Sabha election from Baramulla by defeating former J&K chief minister Omar Abdullah, has previously been granted temporary relief on two occasions. He received custody parole between July 24 and August 4 to attend the Monsoon Session of Parliament, and later received interim bail to campaign during the J&K assembly polls.

Rashid has been lodged in Tihar Jail since 2019 following his arrest by the National Investigation Agency in connection with a 2017 terror funding case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
