Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday expressed grief over the loss of lives in the devastating fire at a residential building in Tughlakabad Extension and assured all possible assistance, including medical care, to those affected.

In a post on X, Gupta said the Delhi government was closely monitoring the situation and that all concerned departments were working in coordination to provide timely support to the victims and their families.

"The loss of lives in the fire incident in Tughlakabad is deeply saddening. Heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. Prayers for the speedy recovery of those injured and strength to all those affected by this tragedy," the chief minister said.

According to police, three members of a family lost their lives, while two others, including a 70-year-old woman, sustained critical injuries after a fire broke out in a five-storey residential building in the early hours of Friday.

Officials said a PCR call regarding the blaze was received at Govindpuri police station at around 2.31 am, following which emergency teams rushed to the spot.

The fire engulfed the building with heavy smoke, trapping several residents inside and prompting a coordinated evacuation effort.

Gupta said multiple agencies were involved in the rescue and relief operations.

Teams from the Delhi Fire Services, Delhi Police, Delhi Disaster Management Authority, Centralised Accident and Trauma Services, and other emergency response units were immediately deployed to the site.

"The best possible medical care is being ensured for the injured, while all necessary assistance is being extended to the affected families," the chief minister added.

Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the fire, while relief measures remain underway for those impacted by the tragedy.
