Former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Farooq Abdullah has hit out at PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti for her criticism of school children in a school in Kashmir being asked to recite bhajans.
“We rejected the notion of a two-nation state theory. India is both secular and non-communal. I am chanting bhajans. Is it wrong if I chant a bhajan?” the National Conference chief asked.
Farooq Abdullah was responding to a tweet posted by Mehbooba Mufti in which she criticized the singing of ‘Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram’ by students in a school in Kashmir.
Jailing religious scholars, shutting down Jama Masjid & directing school kids here to sing Hindu hymns exposes the real hindutva agenda of GOI in Kashmir. Refusing these rabid dictates invites PSA & UAPA. It is the cost that we are paying for this so called “Badalta J&K”. pic.twitter.com/NssOcDP4t6

The BJP too sharply criticized Mehbooba for her tweet.

“Mehbooba should avoid playing such a type of politics in the name of religion. She has lost her ground in Kashmir and the people of the valley rejected her,” said BJP’s J&K president Ravinder Raina.
