We often get to know of stray incidents of confrontation between Hindu groups and Muslims in in Uttarakhand and the reality of both the communities living together peacefully, celebrating festivals and the sound of Azan and temple bells echoing rarely make a headline.

A local woman has taken up the job of spreading love among people of different communities in the hill state and showing it to the world through social media.

Mamta Rawat makes such content and posts the same on Facebook and YouTube under the banner Mrs and Mr Rawat. She is creating a vision of love and unity in Uttarakhand that newspapers and TV channels often ignore.

In one of her online videos, Mamta Rawat says, "Hello everyone from Devbhoomi Uttarakhand. Today, we have come to Rama village. Look, there is a beautiful mosque in the middle of the village. Maulvi sahib is also present here and people come for prayers. Some people in the village are busy with employment guarantee work."

She continues, “As soon as you hear the name Rama village, people say it is a Muslim village. It is very old, and people have been living here for many years. Everyone lives together peacefully. There are no fights or conflicts. Everyone coexists with love and brotherhood.”

Understanding social media culture, she adds, “Friends, please avoid negative comments. This village is very beautiful, and its people are kind-hearted and friendly. They join in weddings, celebrations, and times of grief with us.”

In another video, Mamta talks to Maulvi Mohammad Irshad, who has come from Bihar. He has four children and is very happy living here.

Local Muslims pray five times a day, and the mosque is well-maintained. The Imam says the villagers are simple, honest, and full of love. The scope of agriculture is limited, but everyone is happy with their work and life.
In another clip, she says, “I am at a wedding ceremony, and let me show you the food here. It is exactly like how we eat together in a community meal. Everyone enjoys vegetables, bread, and other dishes together.”

She emphasises, “Here, Hindus and Muslims participate together in weddings and celebrations. No one faces discrimination. Outsiders may have biases, but coming here feels wonderful. Five daily prayers are observed in the mosque, and residents attend regularly.”

Finally, Mamta Rawat says, “A person is not bad because of religion. Neither Hindus nor Muslims are inherently bad. Evil exists in human thinking. Everyone’s blood is the same, and we are all human. Humanity is the greatest value. Instead of hatred and sectarianism, we should embrace love and brotherhood.
