When the lilting notes of flute reverberated in the Sufiana mehfil organized in khanqah of Agra on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Imam Hussain, grandson of Prophet Mohmadded and a historic figure in Islam, Thursday late evening, the scene could be aptly described as a glimpse of Incredible India.
The flute player was Pandit Anil Kumar Jha, a young musician who originally hails from Bihar’s Araria, and has settled in Agra. Jha said he played music to commemorate the life of Imam Hussain. who served the cause of humanity.
The cultural evening was organized at Kadariya Niyazia Aastana-e-Maqsh to commemorate Imam Hussain’s fight against oppression and support for the righteous in his life and death.
Cultural activist Dr Vijay Sharma introduced Anil Jha as a NIFT graduate and a trained musician, whose aim is to bring about social changes.
Syed Faiz Ali Shah said that this Sufi music was inspired by the literature of Maulana Rumi. He said Sufis meditate and worship through the flute. Ahl-e-Khanqah (Sect of Khanqah) around the world considers music as the medium of spiritual practice.
Syed Ajmal Ali Shah Qadri Niyaji said that the peak of oppression is the beginning of its end. He said Imam Hussain’s life and death give the message of humanity. At the same time, while propagating the teachings of the Prophet, Imam Hussein laid down his life and made other members of his family do the same to save Islam.
Anil Jha said that through Sufiana music, we can deliver the message of humanity. He said Imam Hussain chose to become a martyr instead of bowing his head before the tyrant forces.
The mehfil also honoured Anil Jha. The musical evening was also attended by music lovers of the city.
