Four Army personnel, including a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO), sustained injuries after an accidental landmine explosion near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district on Tuesday, officials said.

According to officials, the incident occurred in the forward Kalal area of the Nowshera sector while Army personnel were carrying out an area domination patrol as part of routine operational deployment.

The explosion was triggered when a landmine was accidentally activated during the patrol, resulting in injuries to the JCO and three soldiers.

The injured personnel were immediately evacuated from the site and shifted to a nearby military medical facility for treatment. Their condition is reported to be stable, officials said.

Security forces maintain extensive anti-infiltration measures along the LoC, including the deployment of landmines in vulnerable stretches to prevent cross-border infiltration attempts. However, officials noted that heavy rainfall and adverse weather conditions can sometimes displace these mines from their original positions, increasing the risk of accidental detonations.

Such incidents, though infrequent, underline the operational hazards faced by troops deployed in forward areas along the LoC while conducting surveillance and anti-infiltration duties.
