In the wake of India's Operation Sindoor on May 7, 2025, Union Home Minister Amit Shah convened a crucial meeting with Chief Ministers and senior officials from various states, including Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Sikkim, and West Bengal. The Lieutenant Governors of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, along with Chief Secretaries and Directors General of Police, also participated in the discussions.

The operation, a targeted strike on nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, was launched in response to the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, which resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians. Minister Shah emphasized the importance of maintaining internal security and instructed the Border Security Force (BSF) to ensure the safety of residents in border areas. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha of Jammu and Kashmir has been actively overseeing the situation, directing district officials to relocate villagers from vulnerable areas and ensure the continuity of essential services.

In a related development, the government has convened an all-party meeting scheduled for Thursday, May 8, 2025, at 11:00 AM in the Parliament Library Building. The meeting aims to brief political leaders on the actions taken during Operation Sindoor. Prior to this, the Congress party held an emergency meeting to discuss the current security situation. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, during a press briefing, described the Pahalgam attack as an act of extreme barbarity and emphasized that India's response was measured, non-escalatory, and focused on dismantling terrorist infrastructure.

Operation Sindoor involved precision strikes on nine terrorist sites, including locations in Muridke and Bahawalpur, known for housing militant group facilities. Wing Commander Vyomika Singh and Colonel Sophia Qureshi led the media briefing, providing details of the operation and presenting evidence of the destruction of terror camps. The operation resulted in the elimination of approximately 70 militants, with no reported casualties on the Indian side.

The international community has closely monitored the developments, with various countries calling for restraint and urging both India and Pakistan to avoid further escalation. The United Nations Secretary-General and other global leaders have expressed concern over the potential for increased tensions in the region.
