India's National Security Adviser (NSA) Ajit Doval has conveyed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s personal thanks to Russian President Vladimir Putin for backing India in the wake of Pahalgam terror attack.

“The PM has asked me personally to thank President Putin for his support on the Pahalgam incident,” he informed Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu on Thursday.

During his high-level talks visit to Moscow on Thursday, Doval described the India-Russia relationship as “very special and long-standing,” emphasising its significant contribution to India’s security.

“We are highly thankful for that support. These relations have contributed very substantially, and this is very important to India,” he added.

The discussions also covered preparations for President Putin’s upcoming August visit to India and the successes of the recent Indo-Russian Intergovernmental Session on Trade, Science, Technology, and Culture was also reviewed.

Highlighting the importance of continued dialogue, Doval said, “Summit meetings have always been important to us, and we hope to make our future meetings fruitful.”

Stressing the shared resolve to combat terrorism, “We are as committed to fighting terrorism as you. Our partnership has a very important role to play,” the NSA said.

These remarks reaffirm the strong bilateral ties between India and Russia, underscoring their joint efforts to address terrorism and enhance regional security.

Doval acknowledged the tumultuous international environment and highlighted the importance of India-Russia cooperation, calling for new ideas to further strengthen the longstanding partnership. The meeting underscored how both nations were navigating complex global challenges together.
