Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday alleged a major controversy has emerged after claims that Putta Mahesh Kumar was found consuming drugs.
The YSR Congress Party chief criticised the government led by N Chandrababu Naidu, accusing it of failing to maintain law and order in the state.
Jagan said the issue went beyond an individual case and pointed to a larger systemic problem. He alleged that the lack of strict action against those involved has contributed to the spread of drug-related activities across Andhra Pradesh.
He further accused the administration of ignoring serious concerns, including crimes against women and fraud cases, and relying on committees instead of taking concrete action.
The opposition leader questioned how long such alleged inaction would continue and said people deserve better governance, safety and accountability. He added that his party would continue to raise these issues and hold the government accountable.
A day earlier, Y S Sharmila Reddy, chief of the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee, demanded the permanent disqualification of the MP following reports that he tested positive for narcotics after a raid at a farmhouse in Moinabad.
She termed the incident “shocking” and urged authorities, including the Parliament Speaker, to take strict action. She also called on the state government to immediately remove the MP from his position.
The controversy began after a raid by the Telangana Police’s Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE) at the farmhouse of Pilot Rohit Reddy in Moinabad, Rangareddy district.
Police detained 11 individuals during the operation, which was carried out following information about an unauthorised gathering. Officials said gunfire was heard during the raid, and a small quantity of suspected narcotic substances was recovered.
