External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday stressed that closer cooperation between India and the European Union would play a crucial role in reducing global economic risks by strengthening resilient supply chains and contributing to stability in the international order through enhanced trade, mobility and security partnerships.
Jaishankar met and held discussions with ambassadors from several European Union countries, during which the evolving global situation and shared strategic concerns were discussed. Taking to social media platform X, the External Affairs Minister said, “Pleased to interact with the Ambassadors from EU countries today.”
Reflecting on the present international environment, Jaishankar noted that uncertainty has become a defining feature of global affairs. “Spoke to them about the current state of the world with volatility and instability as the new normal,” he said.
Highlighting the importance of deepening engagement between India and the EU, Jaishankar said stronger ties would help “de-risk the world economy by cooperating on resilient supply chains; reassure the international community by providing public goods such as humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR), anti-piracy operations and development projects; and stabilise the global order through stronger trade, mobility and security partnerships.”
He also referred to upcoming high-level exchanges, stating that Members of the European Parliament are expected to visit India around Republic Day. Jaishankar further said he looks forward to the visit of European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who are scheduled to attend India’s Republic Day celebrations.
Earlier this week, Jaishankar, along with Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares, jointly unveiled the logo for the India-Spain Dual Year of Culture, Tourism and Artificial Intelligence, marking 70 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries. During the event, Spain was also welcomed into the Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative (IPOI).
In a post on X, Jaishankar said, “Celebrating the 70th anniversary of India-Spain ties. Delighted to jointly unveil the India-Spain logo with FM Jose Manuel Albares, marking our Dual Year of Culture, Tourism and Artificial Intelligence.”
The Spanish Foreign Minister’s visit included wide-ranging discussions on bilateral cooperation and global issues. In a separate post, Jaishankar said the talks covered key areas such as trade, investment, defence, technology, education and people-to-people exchanges, while reaffirming the strength of political dialogue between the two nations.
