Kuldeep Sharma, a local Hindu of Jammu has offered a plot of land to Arfaz Ahmad Daing, a journalist whose house was demolished in the Narwal area of the city on Thursday and caused widespread anger among people of all communities.

Daing runs the digital news channel News Sehar India. He said his house on three marla was not the only one built unauthorisedly, but was singled out for demolition, with the family not given time or served a notice.

Kuldeep Kumar, a local Dogra, whose video was posted on X by Gulvinder, was seen getting emotional. on 'revenge demolition.'

Hugging Arfraz Ahmed Daing, Kuldeep Kumar Sharma said he “will not allow his brother to be on the roads and that his heart cries for the plight of young children who have been rendered homeless by the authorities.”

He made his daughter hand over the land deed (of five marla) to Arfaz in front of the media persons and announced he would transfer the land legally to his 'brother'.

The emotional handover took place in the presence of Sharma’s family members, many of whom were in tears as they watched Arfaz receive the ownership papers. Witnesses said the moment captured the essence of Jammu & Kashmir’s age-old traditions of brotherhood, where humanity rises above every other identity.

Arfaz, who had been left devastated and homeless after the demolition, was seen with moist eyes as he accepted the documents. He later said he was overwhelmed by Sharma’s generosity and described the gesture as “a light in a very dark week”.

Citizens across Jammu & Kashmir, cutting across ethnic, religious and regional backgrounds, have widely hailed Sharma’s act, calling it a powerful reminder of the unity that binds communities together despite challenges. Many social media users said that at a time when divisions often dominate public discourse, Sharma’s gesture had “restored faith in humanity”.

Community leaders also praised the move, noting that such acts of kindness strengthen the social fabric and reaffirm the shared values that define the region.

He is also seen abusing the BJP party and the Omar Abdullah government for making young children of Diang’s extended family homeless in the bitter winter.

Daing has a reputation for taking on the drug and sand mafia. On Thursday, he live-streamed the demolition as the JDA staff had arrived with some 500 policemen and bulldozers on the site.

He later told mediapersons that while the entire colony was unregulated, the authorities chose the house belonging to his father for demolition. "My family had been living here for four decades, and ours is not the only illegal house in the city."

Many leaders, including CPI(M) leader M Y Tarigami and PDP's Wahid Parra, have condemned the authorities for the demolition of the house of a journalist.

He and his brothers asked the demolition squad to give them time to remove their belongings, but it fell on deaf ears.
