Prime Minister Narendra Modi turned host to the nation’s newest sporting heroes the Indian women’s blind cricket team as he congratulated them at his Lok Kalyan Marg residence in New Delhi for their unbeaten title win in the inaugural Blind Women’s T20 World Cup.
The Indian team delivered a commanding performance in the final, defeating Nepal by seven wickets and lifting the coveted trophy with sheer grit and confidence. PM Modi praised the champions for proving that determination turns dreams into reality, sharing sweets with every player and coach as a gesture of pride and affection.
“Those who work hard, their efforts never go in vain not only in sports but in life. You have shown courage and made your mark. Today you speak to the Prime Minister confidently, and that fills me with pride for our nation,” PM Modi told the players with admiration.
In a heartwarming exchange, the team gifted him a bat signed by all the players, while he responded by autographing a cricket ball for them a memory they’ll cherish for life.
Skipper Deepika TC shared a delightful moment from the interaction, saying she was surprised when the PM asked if she sings a fun gesture that left her smiling and speechless.
Vice-captain Ganga Kadam grew emotional, remembering her late father who admired PM Modi deeply.
“My father had big dreams for me. If he were alive to see this moment, he would have been so happy,” she said, holding back tears of pride.
A Dominant World Cup Run
India bowled Nepal out for 114/5 and chased the target in just 13 overs.
Star opener Phula Saren smashed 44 off 27 balls, while Karuna K hammered 42 off 27 sealing the victory in style. Saren was named Player of the Match.
From defeating Sri Lanka in the opener, overpowering Australia twice, and crushing Pakistan during the chase India remained unstoppable throughout the tournament.
