Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami has been asked to appear before election authorities in Kolkata as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) verification process, officials said on Tuesday.
Shami was initially summoned along with his brother, Mohammed Kaif, to attend the hearing at a school in the Jadavpur area on Monday. However, the cricketer was unable to be present as he is currently in Rajkot, representing Bengal in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Following his request for an alternative date, the Election Commission has rescheduled the verification hearing for a window between January 9 and January 11, officials confirmed.
According to the West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer’s office, the summons was issued after discrepancies were found in the Enumeration Forms submitted by Shami and his brother.
The Indian pacer is registered as a voter in Ward 93 of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, which falls under the Rashbehari Assembly constituency.

Although Shami is originally from Uttar Pradesh, he has been based in Kolkata for several years owing to his cricketing career. He moved to the city at a young age and later trained under former Bengal Ranji captain Sambaran Bandyopadhyay, a phase that played a key role in his progression into Bengal’s under-22 team and beyond.
