Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav has called upon citizens across the state to actively participate in Census 2027, emphasising its crucial role in shaping future development and governance.

In a message marking the launch of the census exercise under the theme "My Census, My Development," the governor stated that Nagaland has joined the rest of the country in undertaking Census 2027.

Participating in the Self-Enumeration phase of Census 2027 at Lok Bhavan here, he appealed to the people of the state to actively take part in this historic national exercise.

Yadav highlighted that, for the first time, citizens can enumerate their households online during the self-enumeration period from Tuesday till June 30.

The governor noted that the census is being conducted in a fully digital mode, making the process more efficient, transparent and inclusive.

He said the data collected through Census 2027 would play a vital role in development planning and help ensure that government schemes and services reach every section of society.

"As India advances towards the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, Census 2027 will provide vital data for development and planning," he said, adding that the information gathered will support informed decision-making in sectors such as education, healthcare, infrastructure and social welfare.

The governor also commended the efforts of more than 6,100 census officials deployed across Nagaland and urged them to carry out their duties with sincerity, professionalism and commitment.

Appealing for community support, he called upon tribal bodies, community organisations, village councils, colony authorities and elders to extend their full cooperation in ensuring the success of the exercise.

Stressing the significance of the census, the governor remarked that it is "not merely a count of people, but a foundation for future planning and development."

He urged every citizen to cooperate fully with census officials and ensure that every household and individual is counted.

Meanwhile, in a post on X, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio encouraged citizens to participate in the self-enumeration process and motivate others to do the same.

"Accurate Census data is essential to informed planning, effective governance and better policy outcomes for future generations," Rio said.

The first phase of Census 2027, known as the House Listing Operation, commenced on Tuesday. Citizens can self-enumerate through the online portal from June 16 to June 30 and obtain a unique Self-Enumeration ID. This will be followed by field enumeration from July 1 to July 30, during which enumerators will conduct house-to-house visits for data collection and verification of self-enumeration details.
