A youth attacked the conductor of a private bus with cleaver over an dispute in a moving government bus, seriously injuring him.

The accused identified as Larib Hashmi is an engineering student. He jumped off the bus after attacking the conductor and shared a video on social media alleging that the conductor Harikesh Vishwakarma had 'insulted Islam'.

The police arrested the accused student from inside the college after a chase in which the youth was shot at in the leg.

As the police was taking the accused to the place where he had hidden the weapon of attack, he opened fire and tried to escape. The police also opened fire and shot him in the leg.

Vishwakarma has suffered deep injuries on his neck and hand; his condition is state to be critical.

Police said, on Friday, a B.Tech student from a private engineering college was traveling in an electric bus from Civil Lines Bus Depot to Karchana. On the way, he had a dispute with the conductor about the fare.

During the altercation, he took out a cleaver used by butcher from his bag and attacked conductor on his neck and hand.

Before anyone could catch him, he jumped out of the bus. Bus driver Mangala Prasad informed the police and with the help of other people, the conductor was admitted to Swarup Rani Hospital.

The police of Industrial police station caught the accused from inside the engineering college.

The Police have issued a warning to all those trying to post inaccurate reports about the incident. They said the accused is being treated in the hospital.
