Severe heatwave conditions likely to prevail over parts of India: IMD

The India Meteorological Department on Friday warned that heatwave to severe heatwave conditions are likely to continue across large parts of northwest, central, eastern and peninsular India over the next six to seven days.

According to the weather department, isolated parts of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh are expected to experience heatwave conditions from May 22 to May 28.

The IMD said severe heatwave conditions are likely over eastern Uttar Pradesh and eastern Madhya Pradesh during the same period.

Parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi are also expected to witness intense heat conditions between May 22 and May 28, with severe heatwave conditions likely from May 24 to May 27.

The weather office further said that Rajasthan is likely to remain under heatwave conditions throughout May 22-28, while western Rajasthan may experience severe heatwave conditions from May 24 onwards.

Other regions likely to face heatwave or severe heatwave conditions on different days during the week include Vidarbha, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Telangana, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

The IMD also forecast warm night conditions in isolated pockets of Uttar Pradesh and Vidarbha from May 22 to May 24, in Odisha till May 26, and in Telangana on May 22 and 23.
