Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan on Saturday paid tributes to tribal freedom fighter Birsa Munda during his visit to the latter’s birthplace in Ulihatu, Jharkhand, saying his life and sacrifice continue to inspire generations.

After offering floral tributes at Khunti, the Vice President interacted with the descendants of the iconic leader and described the visit as a deeply moving experience.

“Inspired by the legacy of Bhagwan Birsa Munda, I feel honoured to visit Ulihatu once again, his sacred birthplace,” Radhakrishnan said in a post on X.

Recalling his earlier association with the site, he noted that he had visited Ulihatu on the day he took oath as Jharkhand governor, calling it a profoundly meaningful moment.

He also highlighted the Centre’s decision to celebrate November 15, Birsa Munda’s birth anniversary, as Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas, saying it has strengthened national awareness and pride in tribal heritage.

Radhakrishnan further referred to the PM-JANMAN scheme, announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as a transformative initiative aimed at empowering particularly vulnerable tribal communities.

He said this dual focus—honouring tribal freedom fighters while advancing welfare measures—reflects a commitment to the dignity and rights for which Birsa Munda fought.

Earlier in the day, the Vice President arrived in Ranchi, where he was received by Governor Santosh Gangwar and other dignitaries.
