Actor-politician Vijay has urged the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to conduct any further questioning in the Karur stampede case within Tamil Nadu, citing his commitments related to the upcoming Assembly elections.
Ahead of his appearance before the agency on March 15, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) founder wrote to the CBI stating that he had already complied with earlier summons by attending questioning sessions in New Delhi on January 12 and 19.
In his March 14 letter, which was also sent to Justice Ajay Rastogi—appointed by the Supreme Court to monitor the probe into the Karur stampede—Vijay requested additional time of 10 to 15 days for further appearance. He also sought permission to attend the inquiry in Chennai or elsewhere in the state, citing personal inconvenience and his involvement in election-related work.
Despite this request, the investigating officer asked him to appear in the national capital on March 15.
Vijay was questioned for over seven hours that day and left the CBI office around 6:30 pm. During this third round of questioning, he was accompanied by party leaders Aadhav Arjuna and C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar.
According to sources within the TVK, Vijay reiterated in his letter that he had cooperated fully with the investigation as a “law-abiding citizen.” He also noted that he and his party members were among those affected by the Karur tragedy, which left 41 people dead and several others injured on September 27, 2025, despite what he described as genuine precautionary measures.
