Foreign ministers of the Quad countries will meet in New Delhi on Tuesday to discuss the fallout of the West Asia crisis and the evolving security situation in the Indo-Pacific region, according to the Ministry of External Affairs.

The meeting, to be hosted by India, will be attended by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong and Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will chair the discussions.

The visiting ministers are also expected to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and hold separate bilateral engagements with Jaishankar during their stay in the national capital.

“In keeping with the Quad vision for a Free and Open Indo-Pacific, the ministers will build on discussions held in Washington DC on July 1, 2025,” the MEA said.

The ministry added that the ministers would review progress on ongoing Quad initiatives and discuss recent developments in the Indo-Pacific as well as other global issues of mutual concern.

The Quad — comprising India, United States, Australia and Japan — has emerged as a key strategic grouping focused on peace, stability and security in the Indo-Pacific region.

People familiar with preparations for the meeting said the ministers are expected to deliberate on major international challenges, including the conflicts in Ukraine and West Asia, besides reviewing cooperation amid increasing Chinese assertiveness in the Indo-Pacific.

Over the past few years, the Quad has expanded collaboration in maritime security, regional connectivity, infrastructure and critical technologies.

At the Quad summit held in Wilmington, US, in 2024, leaders of the grouping unveiled several initiatives aimed at enhancing maritime security cooperation in the Indo-Pacific.
