Prime Minister Narendra Modi led-BJP’s landslide win in the Gujarat state assembly elections have drawn widespread interest not only in the national media but also made it to the front pages of International media outlets.

On Thursday, BJP returned to power in Gujarat for a record seventh time with a thumping majority. It won 156 seats in the 182-member assembly to set a record for the highest number of seats won by a political party in the state.  

The Straits times of Singapore splashed a picture of jubiliant BJP workers celebrating the win, calling the victory a ‘sign of continuing popularity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’.

Al Jazeera too acknowledged the role of PM Modi in the leading his party to a landslide victory in the state.

BBC.com reported that the Gujarat win cemented Modi’s dominance in India having made the elections a referendum on himself.

Britain’s The Guardian said that the victory will boost PM Modi’s chances to return to power in 2024.

The Japanese daily, Nikkei wrote "Many residents take pride in the fact that the Gujarat-born Modi represents India at the global level, and feel a sense of responsibility to support him."

On Thursday, Prime Minister Modi, on his personal Twitter account, thanked the people of Gujarat saying, they blessed the politics of development.

Modi served as chief minister of Gujarat for nearly 13 years before becoming prime minister in 2014.

Yesterday’s results, surpasses the BJP’s 127 seats it had won in 2002, as also the 149 seats won by the Congress in 1985.
