Giyasuddin Babukhan, a remarkable philanthropist who supported the education of children from disadvantaged families and remote areas of Telangana, passed away on Monday.

His death came as a shock across the southern state.

The news of his death saddened the entire Hyderabad. AIMIM chief Member of Parliament, Asaduddin Owaisi, said that Babu Khan sahab's death is a great loss for the city, and he will always be remembered for his efforts to educate the poor and the underprivileged.

He posted this on X:

Babkhan was a well-established real estate businessman who, through his hard work, established companies like Babu Khan Enterprises, Mughal Builders and Planners, and Babu Khan Properties. These companies built modern buildings, business structures and offices with distinct architecture in Hyderabad.

However, as much as he was known for his business acumen, Babukhan was known for his social concerns and actions to change society.

Ghiyasuddin Babukhan was more identified for his social service. He strengthened institutions like Hyderabad Zakat and Charitable Trust (HZCT) and Foundation for Economic and Educational Development (FEED).

In 1992, when HZCT was started with just Rs 11 lakhs of Zakat, nobody had imagined that one day this same organisation would provide education to more than 24,000 children in 106 schools.

Most of these children come from remote areas of Telangana.

This achievement is a testimony to Babu Khan Saheb's farsightedness, hard work, and the belief that he always believed in education as the real path to progress.

With this idea, he established the Hyderabad Institute of Excellence, where the young passouts from schools are imparted higher education to deserving but economically weaker students and make them self-reliant.

Jamaat-i-Islami Hind paid tributes to Babukhan on X:

In 2014, the Telangana government honoured him with the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad National Award, in recognition of his long-standing contribution to the educational and economic upliftment of the Muslims.

Babukhan was a living example of charity and philanthropy. He believed that true charity is that which makes a person self-reliant and gives him the courage to stand on his own feet. This thinking set him apart from ordinary businessmen and made him a leader of society.

His funeral was held at Masjid-e-Baqi, Banjara Hills, on Monday night. A large number of eminent personalities, social workers, and common citizens of the city came to bid him farewell. This scene proved that Babukhan was not just a businessman, but a part of the city's spirit.
