Apple Inc exported iPhones valued at USD 50 billion from India in 2025, a landmark achievement for the country’s manufacturing and exports ecosystem, Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Monday.

Sharing the development on social media platform X, the Minister said the milestone reflects the success of the ‘Make in India’ programme and India’s shift towards becoming a producer-led economy.

“In a major milestone for Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji’s ‘Make in India’ vision and our journey towards a producer economy, Apple has shipped mobile phones worth USD 50 billion in 2025,” Vaishnaw said.

To place the achievement in perspective, the Minister pointed out that Samsung exported devices worth around USD 17 billion during its five-year Production Linked Incentive (PLI) period from FY21 to FY25.

Vaishnaw also highlighted the rapid expansion of India’s electronics sector over the past decade. He said electronics production has grown six-fold over the last 11 years, while exports have increased eight times under the Prime Minister’s focused leadership. As a result, electronics products now rank among India’s top three export categories.

The Minister said the sector’s growth has been supported by 46 component manufacturing projects, along with large-scale production of laptops, servers and hearables, positioning electronics as a key pillar of India’s manufacturing economy. He added that four semiconductor fabrication units are expected to begin commercial operations this year.

According to Vaishnaw, the electronics manufacturing industry currently provides employment to about 25 lakh people, with several facilities employing more than 5,000 workers at a single location. Some manufacturing units, he said, have a workforce of up to 40,000 employees at one site.

Emphasising that the current progress marks only an early phase of India’s industrial journey, the Minister said the country aims to emerge as a global force across the entire electronics value chain.

“This is only the beginning. Bharat will become a major player across the full electronics stack — including design, manufacturing, operating systems, applications, materials and equipment,” Vaishnaw said.
