Samanvay Library organised a special talk series on the occasion of National Mathematics Day, bringing together students, educators and enthusiasts for an insightful discussion on the role of mathematics in everyday life. The event featured renowned academician and social activist Prof. Nandita Narain as the chief speaker.
Titled “The Invisible Mathematics of Everyday Life”, the session highlighted how mathematical concepts quietly shape daily experiences, from patterns in nature to decision-making in modern society. Prof. Narain, a retired professor from St. Stephen’s College, former DUTA President and a noted education activist, shared thought-provoking insights that resonated strongly with the audience.
As part of the programme, Samanvay Library also organised a Mathematics Quiz, which witnessed enthusiastic participation. Dev Ratan secured the first prize, receiving ₹500, a participation certificate and the Samanvay Library Cup. Aditya Meena won the second prize with ₹500 and a certificate, while Harsh claimed the third prize, receiving ₹250 along with a participation certificate.
During her address, Prof. Narain also raised concerns over the current education landscape, stating that recent policy changes, particularly the National Education Policy (NEP), have adversely affected the quality of education and employment prospects, leaving many students struggling to secure jobs.

The event was well received by attendees, who appreciated both the intellectual depth of the talk and the interactive quiz session. It concluded with a lively discussion over high tea, providing participants an opportunity to exchange ideas and perspectives.
