Sunny Deol-led war drama “Border 2” maintained its impressive box office momentum, clocking the highest-ever Republic Day collection for a Hindi film with earnings of Rs 63.59 crore (net) on its fourth day, the producers announced on Tuesday.

The film, which hit theatres on January 23, has now amassed a four-day domestic net box office collection of Rs 193.48 crore, according to figures shared by the makers. Backed by T-Series and J P Films, the movie is a sequel to Deol’s iconic 1997 hit Border.

In an official statement, the production team described the Republic Day performance as historic. “With unwavering momentum, Border 2 delivered a record-breaking Day 4 on Republic Day, setting a new benchmark for patriotic cinema. The film earned Rs 63.59 crore net on the day, taking its four-day total to Rs 193.48 crore,” the note said.

Trade figures shared by the makers show that the film opened with Rs 32.10 crore on its first day. Collections rose sharply over the weekend, with Rs 40.59 crore on Day 2 and Rs 57.20 crore on Day 3, before peaking on the national holiday.

Alongside Sunny Deol, the ensemble cast includes Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty, with Mona Singh, Sonam Bajwa, Anya Singh and Medha Rana playing key roles.

Like the original Border, which was inspired by the Battle of Longewala during the 1971 India-Pakistan war, the sequel is also set against the backdrop of the same conflict.

Meanwhile, reports suggest that Border 2 has not received clearance for theatrical release in six Gulf countries — Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE — allegedly due to concerns over its portrayal of Pakistan. The makers have not yet issued an official response on the matter.

The film becomes the second Indian release in recent weeks to face a Gulf release hurdle, following director Aditya Dhar’s spy action thriller “Dhurandhar”.
