The exiled Tibetan community in Dharamshala expressed joy on Monday after spiritual leader the Dalai Lama won his first Grammy Award for the spoken-word album “Meditations: The Reflections of His Holiness the Dalai Lama”.
The album won in the Best Audio Book, Narration and Storytelling Recording category at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards, held in Los Angeles.
Welcoming the honour, Deputy Speaker of the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile Dolma Tsering described the moment as historic and said the recognition would help spread the Dalai Lama’s message of compassion and universal brotherhood across the world.
“It is a historic moment and a matter of great joy, not only for Tibetans but for all humanity,” Tsering said, congratulating the Dalai Lama on the achievement. She added that the Grammy provides a new global platform for his teachings on peace, compassion and coexistence.
The album is a collaboration between the Dalai Lama and renowned sarod maestro Amjad Ali Khan, along with his sons Amaan Ali Bangash and Ayaan Ali Bangash. It blends spoken reflections with music, highlighting values of peace, hope and compassion.
In a message shared by his office following the award, the Dalai Lama said he received the recognition with gratitude and humility. He emphasised that the honour was not personal but reflected a shared responsibility towards promoting peace, compassion, care for the environment and the oneness of humanity.
He expressed hope that the Grammy recognition would help carry these messages to a wider global audience.
