Kendrick Lamar and SZA took home the Record of the Year at the 2026 Grammys for their hit song Luther, adding another milestone to Lamar’s record-breaking career.
The rapper’s victory over high-profile competitors including Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, Billie Eilish, Bad Bunny, Sabrina Carpenter, Doechii, and Chappell Roan extends his unprecedented streak at the Grammys. With this win, Lamar has now become the most-awarded rapper in Grammy history, surpassing Jay-Z. Lamar’s tally stands at 26 Grammys, breaking Jay-Z’s previous record of 25.

Earlier in the non-televised premiere ceremony, Lamar had already bagged three awards: rap performance for “Chains & Whips” (as a featured artist), melodic rap performance for Luther alongside SZA, and rap song for “tv off.” During the main telecast, he also won Best Rap Album for his 2024 release GNX, leaving the door open for more accolades in major categories including Record, Song, and Album of the Year.
Heading into the ceremony, Lamar led the nominations with nine nods, cementing his status as one of the most recognized artists in Grammy history. Across his career, he has accumulated a staggering 66 Grammy nominations.

The 2026 Grammys were hosted for the sixth and final time by Trevor Noah and produced by Fulwell 73 Productions for the Recording Academy, with executive producers Ben Winston, Raj Kapoor, Jesse Collins, and Noah overseeing the show.
With Luther, Lamar continues to redefine rap music while solidifying his legacy as a record-breaking force at the Grammys.
