Veteran actor Neena Gupta reflected on her early career struggles, saying that her 1982 film Saath Saath became “the biggest disaster” for her, despite its box-office success.
In an interview with ANI, Gupta said the supporting role of a young, bespectacled, know-it-all girl typecast her, and filmmakers stopped considering her for lead roles. She recalled actor-director Girish Karnad telling her at the film’s premiere, “Now you’re finished. You’ll never get a heroine role.”
The Panchayat star advised aspiring actresses to be cautious with early comedy roles, noting that they can limit opportunities in lead roles. “Any girl who wants to become a heroine should avoid comedy films at the start of her career. Once you do that, people can’t imagine you as a heroine anymore,” she said.
