The 2025 Taiwan Film Festival kicked off in Delhi on Friday, December 12, highlighting contemporary Taiwanese cinema and fostering cultural collaboration between India and Taiwan.

Organised by Taiwan’s Ministry of Culture, the two-day festival features film screenings, filmmaker discussions, and the world premiere of Demon Hunters, marking the first co-production between Taiwan and India.

At the inaugural event, Mumin Chen, Representative of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Centre in India, highlighted the significance of the partnership. “The Taiwanese film industry is smaller compared to India’s, but Indian cinema has a larger market. This initiative allows both countries to learn from each other through shared cinematic experiences,” he said.

This year’s festival includes three selected Taiwanese films showcasing the country’s cultural and cinematic landscape. The premiere of Demon Hunters combines elements from both nations, including classic Bollywood dance sequences, representing a milestone in bilateral film collaboration.

Actor Arjan Bajwa, who leads the film, expressed his pride in representing India in the co-production. “This is not a typical rom-com. Representing India in a Taiwan-India collaboration is a matter of pride,” he said.

Set across India and Taiwan, Demon Hunters follows a paranormal YouTuber from Taiwan and an Indian tech engineer who join forces to combat a mysterious supernatural threat. The film also stars Taiwanese actors JC Lin and Jack Kao.

The festival will also feature A Chip Odyssey, a documentary examining Taiwan’s technological advancements and their global impact, and Hunter Brothers, a drama exploring tensions between tradition and modernity within Taiwan’s indigenous communities.
