Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Friday welcomed the inclusion of Khasi and Garo languages in the CBSE’s three-language framework, describing the move as a significant step towards inclusive education and the preservation of the state’s linguistic heritage.
Thanking Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan for the decision, Sangma said the initiative would greatly help students, schools and language teachers across Meghalaya.
In a statement, the chief minister expressed appreciation to the Union minister for facilitating the inclusion of Khasi and Garo under the CBSE R3 framework. He said the development would not only ease difficulties faced by educational institutions but also contribute to safeguarding the rich cultural and linguistic traditions of the state.
Sangma further noted that the decision demonstrated a broader commitment to building an education system that values and promotes linguistic diversity and respects every language identity.

The CBSE R3 framework refers to the board’s three-language policy under which students are required to study three languages beginning from Class 6.
