Union Women and Child Development Minister Annpurna Devi on Saturday paid tributes to social reformer Jyotirao Phule on his birth anniversary, describing his life as a unique example of dedication, social justice and transformation through education.
She said that during his 200th birth anniversary year, the nation reaffirms its resolve to build an egalitarian, educated and empowered India by following his ideals.
Phule was born on April 11, 1827, in Maharashtra and passed away on November 28, 1890.
Devi also shared Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s article on Phule, saying his life represented dedication to social justice and the transformative power of education.
Modi, in a post on X, said Phule was a visionary reformer who dedicated his life to equality, justice and education, and was a pioneer in championing the rights of women and marginalised communities.
The prime minister said this year marks the start of Phule’s 200th birth anniversary celebrations and expressed hope that his thoughts would continue guiding society toward progress.

He also noted that through Phule’s efforts, education became a powerful instrument of empowerment.
