The 722nd Urs of Sufi saint Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya began with the recitation of the Holy Quran at his dargah in Delhi on Thursday. On this occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has conveyed his wishes.

Many cultural and devotional celebrations will unfold during the five-day festival to celebrate the life of one of the most revered Sufis of the Indian sub-continent.

In the Sufi tradition, the Urs is considered a symbol of spiritual unity.

in his message, Prime Minister Modi said, on X that it is with great joy to know that the 722nd annual Urs of Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya (RA) is being celebrated. On this auspicious occasion, I extend my heartfelt greetings to all his devotees and lovers. Sufi saints, full of knowledge, compassion and spirituality, have always given a message of love, brotherhood and harmony in society. The life of Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya (RA) is also a shining example of this message - he dedicated his entire life to the promotion of humanity, love and unity.

Your teachings are as important and guiding today as ever, connecting us to the shared values of spirituality, generosity, and humanity. On the occasion of the 722nd Urs of Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya, I pay my respects to him with devotion and respect.

The Urs will see a special prayer and Qawwali program on October 10, and a collective prayer for world peace on October 12.

The program will conclude on October 13, with the closing prayer and distribution of Tabrak (consacrated yellow rice).

Syed Iltamish Nizami said that the occasion is an example of our shared culture and Sufi tradition.

In view of the large number of devotees, special security and cleanliness arrangements have been made in the dargah and surrounding areas to ensure smooth darshan and participation.

There is uncertainty about the participation of Pakistani pilgrims in the annual Urs of Hazrat Nizamuddin. Relations between the two countries have been strained after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam and Operation Sindoor.

According to the members of the organizing committee, the possibility of pilgrims from neighbouring countries coming this time is very low. So far, they have not received any information in this regard. Last year, a group of Pakistani pilgrims visited the Dargah of Nizamuddin Auliya during the Urs.

According to Dargah Sharif Chairman Syed Afsar Ali Nizami, "the shrine is open to all. If anyone comes, he will be welcomed, but no one will be specially invited."

The flow of pilgrims resumed in 2021 after relations between the two countries deteriorated. Last year, a group of 80 Pakistani pilgrims visited the shrine, accompanied by officials from the Pakistani High Commission, but their arrival this year is uncertain.
