Ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Monday targeted the BJP-led government, alleging that the party was working with an "egoistic" approach and not listening to the voices of students and people.

Speaking to reporters, Yadav said, "If we look back at history, the Britishers looted us, and the BJP is also doing the same now. The party is working in an egoistic manner."

He further questioned the government's handling of issues concerning students, including alleged irregularities in NEET, saying, "The government should at least listen to the voices of students. Questions are still being raised over NEET irregularities. What kind of government is this? Is this the Amrit Kaal?"

Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party MP Virendra Singh said that his party would not allow Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to speak in Parliament until a robust mechanism is put in place to ensure that NEET and other competitive examinations are not compromised due to paper leaks.

Singh told ANI, "...We will not allow Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to speak in the House until a robust system is established to guarantee that NEET exams or indeed any competitive examination will never be compromised by leaks again."

He further said that the party would follow the decision taken by SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, adding, "Our stance is that we fully support whatever decision our National President takes."

The remarks come ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, where the opposition is expected to raise concerns over issues related to competitive examinations, including alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG examination.

Meanwhile, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla welcomed the Members of Parliament at the commencement of the Monsoon Session of the 18th Lok Sabha, describing the House as the "supreme temple of democracy" and calling for a spirit of "positive cooperation" among all members.

In a post on X, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla welcomed the members, noting that the morning rain in the capital served as a positive omen."The eighth session of the 18th Lok Sabha, the Monsoon Session, is commencing from today. As a blessing from Lord Indra, the rain that occurred in Delhi this morning has infused the atmosphere with renewed energy and freshness. In this auspicious environment, Parliament, as the nation's supreme democratic institution, is ready to welcome all honourable members," the Speaker said.
