Andhra Pradesh Transport Minister M Ramprasad Reddy has directed officials to intensify action against violations by private bus operators following a series of accidents in the state.

The enforcement drive, aimed at improving passenger safety and tightening compliance with transport norms, saw officials conduct surprise inspections in Guntur district. During checks at the Khaza Toll Plaza on Wednesday, over 20 buses were inspected. One vehicle was seized for failing to meet documentation and safety requirements, while fines were imposed on 15 others, according to a transport department source.

Officials have been instructed to strictly enforce safety regulations, including ensuring valid fitness certificates, proper documentation, adherence to speed limits, and compliance with driver duty norms.

The inspections also covered passenger-related facilities such as ticketing systems, seating conditions, and the availability of emergency safety equipment.

The crackdown comes in response to growing concerns over road safety after multiple bus accidents in recent months. Authorities said the initiative is part of broader efforts to reduce accidents, enhance transparency, and ensure safer travel for passengers.

The minister has emphasised that such enforcement drives will continue across the state, along with awareness campaigns to encourage compliance with safety rules among both operators and passengers.
